Coming through Memphis I stayed downtown and asked the valets if they wanted anything from Gus' chicken. They said no, but if I were going to HBs, they'd surely take something, Hmmmmmmmm Hattie B's huh...always trust locals.
I won't go into crazy detail, as I'd do it no justice. This place is ridiculous....in the best of ways. Everyone working there was fantastic....the place itself was great...and the food....my oh my. PERFECT chicken. Hot as hell on the outside (if you choose the hot), juicy inside, sides perfect, everything just insanely great.
If you're a chicken snob...go here....and I'll bet you that you'll have zero regrets.
If you like spicy...go for it. The delicious peppery burn on your lips will make you feel like you went to heaven.....amazing.
Thanks to the staff for a great experience and to the valets (who were fed properly) for the recommendation. -

Hattie B's was my first experience with authentic Tennessee hot chicken! This place really set the bar high for fried chicken. The place was packed on my visit, so I knew it had to be good.
I tried the small white meat plate to stay true to authentic hot chicken. The chicken was perfectly fried and EXTREMELY hot. I only tried the "Damn Hot!!" and I thought it was pretty overwhelming. I don't know how people can withstand the "Shut the Cluck Up!!!" The side options here are fantastic. The crinkle cut fries were some of the most flavorful fries I've ever had. The red skin potato salad was also well flavored and delicious.
I can't wait to be back!!! -

It makes me sad to give a bad review for a neighborhood eatery. But. We have never been as disappointed in a fast food place as we are with Hattie B's. The chicken is just not that good. I'd rather have had KFC!!The sides are by far the worst I have ever had. We tried the southern and the mild spicing on the chicken. The southern was too salty and the mild spice burned my mouth and left a burning spicy taste afterwards. Not good.
We ordered a variety of sides so we could try them. Man, we're we disappointed!
The sides were terrible: potatoes salad? Tasteless and the texture was unappetizing.
Baked beans: way too sweet and tasted weird. Yuk! Slaw: seriously? It was not slaw. It was shredded cabbage mixed with some sort of creamy tasteless dressing.
The greens were too salty, but edible. But. I couldn't even eat the other sides. They were that bad.
I wish I could have said something redeeming, but no. Not only will we never go back, I will warn others. If this is Nashville fried chicken I want no part of it. Truly. KFC gets five stars by comparison and we all know that's not happening. -

Where do I begin Hattie B's did not disappoint. The service was great and food was delicious. The mild wasn't too spicy with nice heat and the hot seasoning have just amount of heat. The sides were great and food very fulfilling.

Hattie B's in Memphis is a perfect replication of the Nashville location...without a long line! I ordered a 2 piece white *hot* with cole slaw and Mac&cheese.
Be sure to ask for a quarter white. If you ask for a 2 piece white...you end up with a 1/2 (or 2 quarters). Not a huge issue...just boxed up one for later.
The chicken was as good as I remember it (based on the Nashville location). Don't worry about whether it will be just like the Nashville location...it is!
Inside it's very smoky from the spice! So, we opted to eat outdoors which was much better. We also had the peach cobbler which didn't last long...it was TOO good.
The kids liked this location including the small outside area with cornhole.
Now can we get a location in Houston please:)
